Climbing at Olander!

Happy New Year!!

P.E. is off to a great start in 2019. The students entered the semester working hard and having fun! We are kicking into gear for our climbing unit starting on January 22nd! The 5th graders have been very focused and working hard learning how to belay, so they can help the younger students. They have shown tremendous leadership and maturity while taking on this task. I am confident they will be able to help mentor the younger students and help them overcome challenges during the unit! The Kindergarten-4th graders have been practicing traversing (bouldering) on the small wall. They are working hard and training for their vertical climbs. We have also talked about the rules and expectations for the climbing unit, as well as a term called ‘Challenge by Choice’. This is the theme for the climbing unit. Your student(s) can tell you that this means they “only have to do what they want to do, but they are encouraged to challenge themselves every day”. I am thoroughly looking forward to this special unit!
